Friday Favorite || I Put Your Records On
This Friday Fav is dedicated to the anon I got on Wednesday who was loving I Put Your Records On :)
To me this song is about an almost lover. It’s about someone that one shares a deep connection with, but it never goes further.
In the first verse, Allison describes wondering if someone she loves reciprocates her feelings but ends up finding out that the one she loves, loves someone else.
In the chorus, I believe Allison is talking about a rebirth and realization… the knowledge that everything will be okay and that there is always a new beginning.
In the second verse, the wondering continues but it extends itself to a new level. This time she wonders if the one she wrote the song about is wondering too; however, at the end of the verse she realizes the flaws in the person she is singing about and that this person may not be the best person for her.
The song goes back to the chorus which gives resolution (new beginnings); however, the song ends with Cat and Allison singing “I put your records on” repeatedly which, to me, shows that, no matter where Allison goes she will always carry the love that she has for the person she is writing about, she will always wonder if that person ever felt the same and what could have been.
My favorite set of lyrics from this song are:
So I put your records on
To see if I would hear my name
I put your records on
And wonder if you do the sameHappy Friday :)
